Police have recorded a decrease in thefts in Suva City last month compared to May after they repostured their operations.

fijivillage News was contacted by a number of people regarding attacks and robberies on the streets.

They said these people loitering in different parts of Suva were also getting daring and were even attacking and robbing people in broad daylight.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew says they recorded 17 cases of theft in May and after reposturing their operations, there was a reduction of 6 cases, where 9 cases were recorded.

He has assured the public that they take all issues raised about service delivery seriously.

Chew says the recent concerns raised about safety in Suva has been brought to their attention, and they want to reassure the public that operations were repostured last month, leading to the decrease in reported crimes in the City.

He says they understand and respect the decision of those who do not wish to come forward to lodge reports, but they have continued to restratergise their operations accordingly.

The Acting Commissioner says they have and continue to reach out to stakeholders in addressing concerns raised about street dwellers, loiterers, beggars and street kids, engage community and business partners to enhance capabilities through the use of technology and CCTV cameras, set up tents around Suva targeting petty and opportunistic crimes and have increased visibility through mobile and foot patrols.

Chew adds they are committed to the maintenance of law and order and keeping everyone safe.
