Police officers will be issuing Public Health Infringement Notices and on-the-spot fines for breach of COVID-19 protocols from today.

This has been confirmed by Acting Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu.

Meanwhile a total of 18 cases were recorded for breaching health restrictions and curfew orders in the last 24 hours.

Of the 18 cases, 7 were recorded in the Southern Division where three men were arrested for failing to wear a mask in a public place along Milverton Road, Raiwaqa, Omkar Road, Narere and Qaranivalu Road Kalabu.

Tudravu says two men and a woman were arrested in Nabuni Settlement, Stage 1 Cunningham for social gathering while a 30-year-old man was arrested for walking from the Rewa Dairy Bridge towards the 4 miles Police roadblock site.

He says six people were arrested in the Western Division for social gathering where four men were found drinking grog in Malolo, Nadi while two men were arrested in Nadi Town for drinking alcohol.

He says the Eastern Division recorded five cases for breaching curfew orders where four men were arrested in Burerua Village for breaching curfew orders and damaging property while a 31-year-old woman was found drunk and walking along Waituri Road.

Tudravu is urging Fijians to comply with the COVID-19 protocols as it will assist ongoing containment efforts.
