Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says officers should search people for drugs on the spot if they are suspicious and they need people to know that they are around.

Tudravu highlighted this when fijivillage News asked about their strategy to remove drugs from the streets.

The Commissioner says people can be brought in 48 hours on suspicion.

He says they have beefed up their operations and they want uniforms to be present on the ground as that's a big proactive deterrence and shows the power behind the uniform.

When questioned about some BBQ stalls allegedly selling drugs near Harbour Centre in Suva and being a safety threat to the families, the Commissioner says they will be looking into it and he is asking for time.

He says that if people have information, they can lodge a report so that they can take action.

Tudravu further says if the reform and restructure program was completed in 2022, then they would have expected 7,000 police officers within the Fiji Police Force.

The Commissioner adds that since the program was not done, there are about 4,000 plus officers.
