Police need the support of the communities as they can best provide solutions based on community needs.

This was the message from the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP/O) Livai Driu during a talanoa session that was held with Crime Prevention Committee members and the Turaga ni Koro's of villages situated along the Nadi-Namaka Corridor.

ACP Driu also used the opportunity to reinforce the Police's commitment towards the maintenance of law and order following concerns raised about issues relating to criminal activities in the area.

He says crimes are committed within communities, and it's reported to them after the offence is committed.

He further says they need to get back to the community to prevent the offence from happening in the first place.

He adds that is where the community comes in as crime prevention committee leaders because they know their communities better than the Police.

The Assistant Commissioner says there will be changes within the Police Force, but they will remain constant, and it is so the on the community to be the first to take preventative measures.

He says they know they can not demand a lot from the community and hope that by finding the right balance on how they can work together with the community to achieve great things.
