We are looking forward to working with the Land Transport Authority to terminate the licenses of those people who drink and drive, as they pose a danger to our people.

Deputy Director Traffic Superintendent of Police, Mosese Waqalevu highlighted this during the LTA public consultation at Suva Civic Centre when fijivillage News questioned him about the 149 drink and drive cases that were recorded from the 15th of December last year to the 31st of January this year.

The Deputy Director of Traffic urges drivers to be extra vigilant when driving on the roads, as any misstep will not only affect them but many other lives and their families.

He says unsafe drivers are an issue they are currently facing, and the number of recorded cases is alarming and concerning because people are afraid to be on the roads.

He adds that this is the time when people and stakeholders should come and discuss their issues; however, very few people have come forward to raise issues.

SP Waqalevu hopes more people will turn up for the LTA consultations.

The consultation focuses on the proposed minimum qualification requirement for the driving instructor permit, promoting a gender-balanced working environment in the public service industry and mandatory drug testing for new and renewal driver licenses.
