Two separate investigations are being conducted by the Police Force’s Internal Affairs Department into alleged cases of assault, lodged by a 24 year old man and a police officer.
There were cross reports lodged following the alleged incident that occurred on Saturday night in Sigatoka town.
Police say the first report was lodged by a police officer who was attending to a case of causing trouble, where he was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths in Sigatoka town.
A cross report was lodged by health officials after the 24 year old victim was brought to the hospital, claiming he was assaulted by the officer.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says he is awaiting their findings and is urging members of the public posting on social media to allow the process of investigation to take its course before passing judgment.
He says while he understands emotions run high when allegations are made against police officers, the priority will always remain on ensuring justice through the conduct of a thorough investigation.
