Due to the rising concerns from the Suva Business Community about the lack of Police presence during business hours for the past few days, the Fiji Police Force is hoping to have a discussion with stakeholders soon about this issue.

Divisional Police Commander Central SP Farasiko Matawalu says they have received the complaints, however, their officers have been conducting both foot and mobile patrol all over the Central Business Division and there is a tent at the corner of Cumming Street where officers are operating from.

SP Farasiko says they are not only covering Mark Street but other parts of the inner CBD as well as other areas.

He says this include officers who are in civilian.

He adds their operations has factored in the anticipated hype of activities in the coming weeks and have postured their operations accordingly with the re-introduction of the patrol car concept.

Meanwhile, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sakeo Raikaci has launched the Patrol Car concept to enhance their service delivery, which was reintroduced into their routine operations earlier.

ADC Raikaci says the festive season and school holidays are ahead of us, and the demand for Police visibility will be very high.

He says the Patrol Car concept is meant to improve response times to report and reduce complaints against police services and officers.

He adds that individuals who are seen loitering for no reason are asked to leave the city immediately and this is happening on a daily basis.

The Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police says if they are to restore confidence in policing and the organisation, they need to elevate the standard of service delivery and enhance visibility as members of the public want to see police officers on the street and the inclusion of the patrol cars that will add value on the ground.
