More arrests and seizures of drugs, including marijuana and methamphetamine, were done by Police in recent days.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu says around the Suva Bus Stand, searches conducted by the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) have yielded positive results with the discovery of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Three people were arrested in Davuilevu, including a 36-year-old man, a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.

He says a raid was conducted in Davuilevu, which led to the arrest of the three who were allegedly involved in the distribution of drugs.

ACP Driu says they seized plastic bags containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine, syringes, and items believed to have been bought from proceeds of crime.

He also says snap checks and raids are being conducted based on intelligence gathering and tips received from members of the public.

In the Northern Division, plants believed to be marijuana were seized from a farm in Koroivonu.

ACP Driu says their intention is to disrupt the sale and distribution of illicit drugs, and they will do this by aggressively targeting those involved to cut their source of income, including the proceeds of crime.

He says concerted efforts are also being pursued on the national and international level, strengthening stakeholder engagement, as a holistic approach is the only way forward in fighting the war on drugs.

He adds the Police Force appreciates the support shown by various stakeholders in actively engaging with their community policing efforts.

He further adds that the solution lies within our communities, and together we can reduce the harm by cutting supply.
