Police are now focusing on ensuring that they eradicate the illegal activities in the Luke Street, Nabua area where several youths hang around the Bible Society Building and sniff glue, smoke marijuana, drink alcohol, create nuisance and hassle residents, and are even engaging in prostitution.

Chief of Operations, ACP Livai Driu confirms that they have started the patrols, and officers are on the ground after the issue was raised by concerned residents of Nabua on fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan earlier this week.

The Luke Street residents who had contacted us had said that these illegal activities are an ongoing problem for years, this is happening everyday and mainly throughout the weekends - which has gone out of control.

They say over the years, the residents have been harassed to give money and are sworn at, prostitution is rising in the same area where people also get hassled.

There have also been many occurrences of attempted robberies as well and there is also suspicion that illegal drugs have been sold from Luke Street. They say complaints have been sent to Nabua Police Station, but all they do is chase these people away or most of the time they do not bother to show up.

ACP Driu says they have made some arrests and the people found there were from Muslim League Settlement and surrounding areas.

He also raises the question on parental responsibility as these loitering youths have families.

When asked on what would take to clean up the area as it is happening every week, ACP Driu says they will cover that area and take people in.

He says this has already started and they expect some progress soon.
