The Police Mobile Command Post that is currently in use within the Southern Division will be temporarily relocated to a piece of land in Koronivia soon after Koronivia residents and the Koronivia Business Council raised their concerns about continuous criminal activities happening in the area.

Recent tragic events, including the murder of a 75-year-old woman and a violent robbery, have cast a shadow of fear and insecurity and the fear among the residents.

Koronivia Business Council President Amitesh Deo says residents are enduring an environment where criminal activity is alarmingly on the rise, and it is crucial to act swiftly to ensure the safety and security of every individual.

He says recognising the urgency of the matter, the Council has formally requested the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, for the deployment of a specialised police unit within Koronivia during the festive season.

He also says this critical measure aims to curb the escalating crime rate that has plagued their community.

He adds the Police Force has acknowledged their email, and they are looking forward to working with them.

Deo underscores the necessity of this action, citing the prevalent circulation of drugs as a significant contributing factor to the surge in criminal activities.

He says the Council stands ready to support the Police in combating these criminal elements by offering their resources and assistance.

He adds the special police unit would enable a more proactive and immediate response to criminal activities within the community.

The Council President says the deployment of the unit should eventually lead to the permanent set up of a police post, for which they stand ready to support through resources, and they believe that the presence of a dedicated police unit will significantly enhance the safety and security of the residents.

Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu says they have taken their concerns on board, and operations will be beefed up during the festive season.

He says for a temporary police post, the issue was regarding the land, and they are grateful to the support of a member of the community for giving them a piece of land where they will be temporarily relocating the Mobile Command Post soon.
