Some people who were present at the Housing Authority's Public Inquiry Consultation last night at Vunimono Hall in Nausori have raised concerns about the presence of the Authority during the inquiry into their operations however, Inquiry Committee Chair, Seema Shandil says their presence will in no way affect the recommendations to the Minister for Housing.

About six Housing Authority officials including the CEO, Robert Sen were present at the venue and were seen interacting with the complainants.

Shandil says the Authority officials do not have any influence on the work they are doing.

She says they are an independent committee and will present their report in an independent manner.

Robert Sen says they are carrying out customer consultations and are taking down their concerns so that customers can be assisted.

He adds there is no conflict of interest.

Meanwhile, several customers have once again raised concerns about the time they have been waiting for to get a plot allotment.

A Tovata resident who wants to remain anonymous says he had applied for the plot 15 years ago when he was 35 years old and was considered eligible by the Housing Authority.

He says because of his age now, his wife has started working as well just to improve their eligibility.

The 50-year-old man says he wants to secure housing for his two children, especially since his landlord wants to evict him so that he can carry out repair works on the flat.

He says he has been told by the Authority that he will be allocated a plot in Nepani but is unsure when that plot will be made available as the Authority is still developing it.

The man adds that now that he has spoken to the CEO of the Authority and the Inquiry Committee, he hopes he will get an allotment soon.
