People living in elevated areas around Suva are urged to store more water after the Water Authority of Fiji earlier advised that due to low raw water inflows into the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant, low to no water supply may be experienced in elevated areas.

Water Authority of Fiji says the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant is receiving an inflow volume of 67 Megalitre per day due to debris clogging their Raw Water Pumps early this morning.

They say their divers are on site trying to clear the blockage and the Tamavua water sources are operating at capacity they have been compensating and diverting flows to sustain Headworks 3 levels as there has been no rain to assist with natural recharge.

WAF says to minimise the impacts of this fault on service delivery as much as possible valve operations will be carried out to maintain Reservoir levels and customers may experience low pressure, intermittent, and no water supply during this period.

Customers in the following areas are requested to store water to address water supply needs when the water supply is impacted.

Wrong Turn, Sakoca, Upper Khalsa, Tacirua Heights, Nagatugatu residents next to Reservoir, Tamavua Koro, Upper Ragg, Deovji Street, Tacirua Bus, Amputch Street, Princes Road, Dokanaisuva - Seventh Day Church Dokanaisuva to Tacirua Fijian School, Vunuleba Settlement.

Low Pressure to No Water – All feeding from Tamavua Reservoir, Nailuva, Qauia Street, Togalevu, Namadi Heights, Rewa Street, Navikinikini Settlement, Upper Tuisowaqa, Mika Dreu, Pathik Crescent, Ratu Sukuna, Delainavesi, Panaromic, Uduya Point, Waiqanake, Osonabukete, Beniveli, Princes Road, Elevated areas along Princes Road - including Upper Bureta and Upper Samabula Areas.

Meanwhile, the authority's Acting team leader Corporate Communications Peni Shute says they can't project a time when their system can come back online and supply water to the areas affected.
