Suva Bus Stand today.

Many people are not wearing masks and practicing social distancing around Suva.

This was widely observed by Fijivillage this morning.

Major areas of concern are the Suva Bus Stand and Suva Market.

People were not socially distanced in sitting areas around the Suva Bus Stand or inside the buses.

Cones have also been set-up to allow people to socially distance while lining up to enter the bus.

Despite continued announcements at the market that people were required to wear masks and practice social distancing, many people did not follow the guidelines.

We only saw a handful of people following the guidelines.

Supermarkets are also fully enforcing the COVID-safe measures but they are still allowing people to enter without masks.

Enforcement officers are taking temperatures, checking that people have the careFiji app or listing their address, phone contact and name.

There is a concern though that many people are not specifically listing their address and are only writing Makoi or Koronivia when entering the supermarkets.

At the MHCC complex, both entry points are being strictly monitored.

Pharmacist in charge at MHCC’s City Centre Pharmacy Dattesh Khatri says a lot of people have been coming to buy masks.

Restaurants are also strictly enforcing the measures and many say they are hardly getting any customers.

At Secret Recipe Island Cuisine, Sashi Kiran says they have only had 16 transactions so far.

A student, Marica Iosefo says she started wearing a mask yesterday.

Iva Nakoro of Sri Lankan Express Restaurant says she has been encouraging everyone to wear a mask and follow the guidelines.

She says she recently worked at a hotel and lost her job.
