With more rainfall expected residents especially those in flood-prone areas have been advised to prioritize safety and take proactive measures to protect themselves and their families.

Divisional Commissioner Northern, Uraia Rainima has issued a safety advisory as heavy rainfall continues to impact the Northern Division and the wider Fiji Group.

Rainima says the Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a warning that conditions are expected to worsen in the coming days.

He says the safety of all residents in the Northern Division, including farmers and their livelihoods, is their priority.

He emphasised that rising water levels have already affected low-lying areas and crossings in recent days.

Rainima is urging Fijians to avoid flooded areas and not to attempt to cross flooded waters, ensuring that children and vulnerable individuals are kept away from hazardous locations.

He says people must prepare early and pack essential items such as food, clothing, medications, and important documents in case evacuation becomes necessary.

The Divisional Commissioner is urging farmers to move livestock to higher ground and secure feed and supplies to ensure animals are cared for during the adverse weather.

The Commissioner’s Office will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates.

Residents are advised to stay informed through official announcements and cooperate with emergency services.

For assistance, people can contact: Commissioner Northern’s Office on 8811322 Commissioner Northern’s Direct Line on 9994261 Or their nearest Police Station
