Minister for Education Rosy Akbar

Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar has called on all parents to ensure that their children return to school even if they do not have stationery and uniforms after being seriously affected by Tropical Cyclone Harold.

When asked on what is the Ministry’s strategy to ensure we do not have a large school dropout rate as some students may be uninterested in going back to school, Akbar says the Ministry has played it’s part during this extended school break due to the COVID-19 pandemic but parents have to now get their children ready for normal classes.

The Minister for Education says stationery packs will be given to students in the cyclone affected areas.

Akbar also confirms that those who have lost their school uniforms due to the cyclone devastation in Lau, Kadavu and Vatulele, can still go to school in other clothes.

Year 12 and 13 students will start classes on Tuesday - 30th June 2020 while the rest of the primary and secondary school students, as well as early childhood education, will open one week later, on Monday – 6th July.

All school teachers are to report to their schools on the 29th of June.

Tertiary institutions can open for face-to-face classes from 30th June.
