The Pacific Recycling Foundation is concerned over the growing presence of used needles and syringes found in their recycling programs in community and educational settings and during their clean-up campaign in Koronivia which highlighted a serious threat to the safety of their workers and members of the public.

PRF's Founder Amitesh Deo expressed deep concern, noting that improper disposal of these hazardous materials could lead to injury and the spread of diseases.

He says as Fiji faces an escalating drug crisis, they are calling for urgent action, including proper disposal of medical waste and the establishment of rehabilitation facilities to address the underlying issues.

Deo knows that this is not a problem PRF can solve alone, but there is an urgent need to create referral pathways and establish rehabilitation facilities with specialized support structures to address the current drug crisis.

He urged every sector of society to take responsibility, to ensure that hazardous waste is disposed of through proper and secure channels.
