Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged all Fijians to reuse and recycle items that we see can bring more value to our lives and ensure that we dream without boundaries.

While speaking at the Global Recycling Day organised by Waste Recyclers and it's offshoot Pacific Recycling Foundation at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Nadi, Rabuka believes that people discard about 2 billion tonnes of waste every year, and this can be reduced if people reuse or recycle items.

He says we can recycle 75 percent of the 2 billion tonnes of waste that is discarded.

He adds that recycling is very dear to him because he collects PET bottles and recycles it at the Coca Cola factory at Laucala Beach.

The Prime Minister is also thankful that other bottles apart from PET bottles can now be recycled.

Rabuka says this practice has not only assisted those bottle pickers but himself as well, as recycling helped him when his pension was removed by the former Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.

He also commended waste recyclers for their work and echoed his sentiments of achieving a global objective combating emissions and the destruction of the universe.

Rabuka signed the Pacific Recycling Foundation’s National Plastic Free Day declaration and also unveiled the I Recycle Hub bin program for the tourism industry.
