Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has highlighted to the staff of Parliament that the Speaker and he were voted into office by the power of one vote, and the significance of having that Parliament election on Christmas Eve.

He highlighted this during his traditional welcoming to the Fijian Parliament by the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and the Secretariat.

During his address to the staff, Rabuka congratulated them for conducting the election of the Prime Minister, for the first time in the history of Fiji, on the floor of Parliament.

He says for the staff, it was just following the Constitution and the Standing Orders but for him, it was the defining moment of how he would serve, and continue to serve this country.

The Prime Minister says they have to tread cautiously and wisely in the leadership of the nation.

Rabuka says he has to be careful in the selection of those that will help him run this nation for the next four years.

The Prime Minister says it will not be easy and he has done it before and the Christmas Eve was the third time he was sworn in as the Prime Minister of this nation and it is not going easy.

He later had a brief meeting with the Speaker and Executive Management of the Fijian Parliament.

He also reassured the Speaker, Secretary-General and the Secretariat that the coalition government will ensure that the necessary support is provided to Parliament to enable it to carry out its work efficiently and effectively with minimum disruptions.
