PM says only unofficial complaints against Acting SOE, and there is no substantial proof

Prime Minister and Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission, Sitiveni Rabuka confirms that the COC has received some unofficial complaints against the Acting Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa but there have been no official complaints.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, Rabuka says there is no substantial proof of any wrongdoing and they cannot instigate the process on whether Mataiciwa should be investigated or not.

Rabuka also says former Chair of the Electoral Commission, Graham Leung has already indicated that he will not take up the Supervisor of Elections post.

Rabuka also confirms that the Commission will meet on the week of 29th April 2024.

He has requested a meeting as soon as possible, however due to the upcoming Parliament Sitting and the parliamentary workshops on the following week, they will only be able to meet on the week of 29th April 2024.

Rabuka says this is to ensure that the Leader of Opposition, his nominee and all members of the Commission can attend the meeting.

The Prime Minister adds that in accordance with due process and the rules of natural justice, all complaints against Constitutional Officers will be dealt with by the Commission and the officers in question will be given opportunity to respond before the Commission makes any further decision in accordance with the Constitution.

With regard to the review of salaries of constitutional officers, the Commission has appointed a committee to review salaries.

Rabuka says once the Commission meets this month, decisions made will be announced.
