Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama

Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama has honored women in peacekeeping on World Peacekeeping Day which is being celebrated today.

Bainimarama says just in February it showed that our women are just as capable in taking the lead as anyone else in these missions with Inspector Rusila Cakacaka’s appointment as the first Fijian Officer to serve in the Abay Area between North and South Sudan.

He says that whether in peacekeeping mission or anywhere else, Inspector Cakacaka has made it sure that women have a place in leadership.

Bainimarama says that for too long around the world this has been a male-dominated field but Fiji has been trying to break the norm since 1988 when the first woman was deployed and their trailblazing continues today.

The Prime Minister adds that today honors the services of the uniformed and civilian personnel whose bravery and sacrifice has upheld the cause of global peace for over seven decades.

He says among those warriors, thousands of Fijian peacekeepers have given peace a fighting chance in some of the worlds most deadliest and dangerous conflicts.

He has also thanked the peacekeepers and their family for their sacrifice and especially to those who have lost their lives for the greater global cause of peace, justice and security.
