Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the Drekeniwai Village Hall today, which was fully funded and supported by the village members of Drekeniwai.

Rabuka says they started building their new hall by using the materials from their old church which was built by their forefathers after they accepted Christianity in December 1860.

He says he is grateful to the Chiefs and village members of Drekeniwai and Navatu for their corporation and togetherness in conducting fundraising, such as barrel nights.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the Bainimarama government for the construction of their seawall, where they used the materials and labour from their village.

Rabuka says he is also grateful the hall was completed before he became Prime Minister because the village working committee had already earmarked that the Prime Minister will open their new hall.

He is urging villages and communities who would like to venture into such projects to do so, and if the Government is able, they will come and complete the project by working with the community.

According to the Village Headman, Lepani Rova, $85,000 is the total cost of the construction of the hall.
