PM encourages Kadavu to fill their vacant chiefly titles

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has encouraged the people of Kadavu to fill their vacant chiefly titles to maintain stability in the vanua.

While addressing the members of the Kadavu Provincial Council, Bainimarama says of the 376 chiefly and customary titles in Kadavu, only 132 are filled. That leaves 244 vacant.

Bainimarama says it is very important to fill these vacancies which allows for more thorough consultations on development initiatives and more efficient execution of development projects once they are approved. The Prime Minister adds that individuals who have not been confirmed by the iTaukei Lands Commission in the leadership positions have little or no mandate to speak for their Vanua.

Meanwhile, Bainimarama also handed over a new 23-foot fiberglass boat and two outboard engines for Tavuki Village, and kitchen supplies and utensils for the local women’s groups.
