Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has congratulated Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai for his leadership and has highlighted that the government is happy with his work.

While speaking at Queen Elizabeth Barracks after the traditional welcome ceremony, Rabuka says they don't have any issues or complaints about Major General Kalouniwai's leadership as he has been doing a great job.

He says when the Commander asked for finance, the Minister for Home Affairs took the initiative to take their plea to Cabinet so a proper allocation was given to the RFMF.

He adds the funds will enable the Commander to carry out his duty fully.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the RFMF for keeping the old traditional customs alive, and he also jokingly told the officers that it was above and beyond his expectations.

Rabuka said that visiting the barracks has brought back old memories, and he acknowledged the work the RFMF has done in previous years and wished them well in their future endeavours.

Rabuka was welcomed at QEB by Commander Major General Kalouniwai and was accorded the Quarter Guard.

The Prime Minister started his RFMF tour at the Strategic Headquarters at Berkley Crescent earlier today. He was greeted by the RFMF Commander.

He then had a meeting with the Commander and senior army officers.

Rabuka, Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua and Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Mason Smith were part of the government delegation.

They then went to the Republic of Fiji Navy Headquarters in Walu Bay.

The Prime Minister was greeted by Navy Commander, Commodore Humphrey Tawake and his senior officers.

Rabuka was also shown the equipment the Navy team use during their rescue operations.

Major General Kalouniwai earlier confirmed to fijivillage News that the RFMF had extended an invitation for an official visit of the Prime Minister.

The RFMF says the Prime Minister’s official visit to the RFMF sets a platform for discussions on activities related to national security, military preparedness, and strategic initiatives.

The RFMF says the visit will foster a stronger understanding between the government and RFMF while highlighting the collaborative efforts towards the nation's security and well-being of Fiji and all Fijians.
