Irregular supply of clean water will be a thing of the past for the residents and businesses of Korovou Town and its nearby villages after the commissioning of the Namau Water Project in Tailevu today.

While officiating at the commissioning of the project, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says prior to the completion of this over 20-million-dollar modern engineering, Korovou Town suffered an irregular supply of only partially clean water from three minor treatment plants.

Bainimarama says this project has a five-mega litre reservoir, 21 kilometres of new pipelines and accompanying electrical infrastructure.

He says surrounding communities often relied on water carting and this new plant will be saving Fiji $50,000 annually in water carting costs alone.

Bainimarama says water is cleaner and is supplied more regularly now for residents of Korovou Town and nearby communities.

He says thanks to the government’s foresight, beyond the 3,800 Fijians whose lives it has already changed for the better, they have already identified 12 new villages, six settlements, seven schools and two more farming communities in Vulagi and Waidalice that can access treated water from Namau.

Bainimarama says once they lay piping extensions, those communities will also see a greater realisation of their constitutional right to a clean water supply. He says whether it’s lighting homes and schools or reliably supplying people with clean water, government is committed to providing Namau, and every community in Fiji, with a solid foundation of essential services . Bainimarama says by 2030 they expect every Fijian to have reliable access to safe and clean drinking water.
