Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has assured people that have been impacted by Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa that help is on the way.

Bainimarama says they will reach the people with relief supplies.

He says they are mobilising every resource available to respond in areas severely affected by this most recent super-cyclone.

The Prime Minister adds they have about 24,000 Fijians in evacuation centres across Fiji and they will keep these centres open as long as necessary.

He says they will continue to assess the scale of damages in the coming days, but they are likely looking at hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.

Meanwhile, Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry says they hope to see government roll out its assistance package in the next few days now that a national disaster has been declared.

Chaudhry says civil servants and the Police Force deserve special thanks as they kept people informed and safe.
