Fijian Drua huddle after the game against Rebels

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Lynda Tabuya says the Prime Minister and ministers apologise for the inconvenience caused to Drua fans last Saturday who expressed disappointment for not spending enough time with the Drua players who were called in to meet with the Prime Minister and ministers.

Concerns continue to be raised by rugby fans on why the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s meet and greet with the fans waiting at the embankment was cut short as the players were called into the changing room to meet Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka and other ministers and officials.

The Drua have said from last year that they have a meet and greet tradition with the fans after every game.

The Drua players were meeting fans, taking photos and signing autographs after their match against the Melbourne Rebels on Saturday afternoon when the announcement was made for the players to return to the changing room as the Prime Minister was waiting for them.

Many people raised concerns regarding this on social media.

When asked by fijivillage News, Tabuya says they thank the Drua management for having the tradition of meet and greet with fans and they fully support this.

She says though unintended, they take responsibility for the inconvenience and will work with the Drua management to put the people first.

Tabuya says the Prime Minister reiterates the Coalition Government’s commitment that the government should wait on the people, and not the other way around.

She says congratulations again to the Drua men and women, and the people of Fiji look forward with much anticipation to the next home games against the Auckland Blues and Wellington Hurricanes.
