More than a dozen vulnerable and at-risk young ones rescued from the streets will now be supported at the Salvation Army Kauwai Youth Restoration Service Centre in Samabula.

Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran says the youth undergo trust-building, de-addiction and community reintegration programs to help find a better pathway in life.

She says she met with Major Philipa Serevi last year to request the assistance of the Salvation Army to help with outreach and support for our street youths.

The Assistant Minister says with the support of the Salvation Army in New Zealand and donor funds from the Charis Foundation, Salvation Army Fiji has officially opened its doors for vulnerable children on our streets in Suva.

Kiran says Pastor Amani Waqetia is well known for his work with street children.

She says now at this facility, he is able to look after more than a dozen children in need.

Kiran says the Salvation Army is renovating its Raiwaqa property as well to expand its services to more vulnerable street dwellers.

The Assistant Minister adds that they are grateful for the dedication, commitment, and partnership of the Salvation Army in supporting our at-risk children.
