Over 360,000 people in Suva–Nausori corridor benefit from Viria Project

More than 360,000 people living in Lami, Suva and Nausori corridor are benefitting from the Viria Water Treatment Plant Project as it is now operational.

Minister for Public Works and Meteorological Services, Ro Filipe Tuisawau says Viria produces 30 million litres of treated water per day that not only supplies the urban areas but also the rural areas.

Prior to this, thousands of people living in the Lami, Suva and Nausori corridor had to wait for years for consistent water supply as there were some issues with the Vanua of Viria regarding the project.

Ro Filipe earlier mentioned that in 16 years under the rule of the FijiFirst government, our water sector endured neglect as they had no plan and also continued to reduce the Water Authority of Fiji’s much-needed capital budget.

The Minister says Fijians deserve safe and clean drinking water as it is one of the basic human needs.
