Over 36,000 people have registered so far for the COVID-19 vaccination in the country and Health Minister, Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete says registrations have picked up after more teams started going into the community to register people.

Doctor Waqainabete says they understand that some people may not have access to smartphones or may need support in registration.

He says registrations are helped with health officials and other stakeholders and volunteers going out into the community to register people.

Doctor Waqainabete says they will vaccinate as widely as possible.

He says if you look at the population density, a lot of the people live in the urban and semi-urban areas.

This means they will be vaccinating more people in the urban and semi-urban areas especially in areas like the Lami to Nausori corridor and Sigatoka to Ba corridor.

The Health Minister says the vulnerable groups are also being targeted to get vaccinated during the current phase.

Doctor Waqainabete says their target is to vaccinate 650,000 people in the country.

He says this will really assist the country as a whole.

Doctor Waqainabete says Fiji is fortunate to have received 12,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca under the COVAX facility and 100,000 doses through the Indian Government.

More doses are expected to be received in the next few weeks.
