Over 10 youth groups in Fiji have confirmed their place in a one-of-a-kind Qiri Kava competition that will be held at the Gospel High School hall this afternoon.

Event Organiser Tura Lewai confirms that one group will be from Lautoka while the other 9 groups are within the Suva-Nausori corridor.

Lewai says this competition is a first of its kind in Fiji where youths from different neighbourhoods will go head to head by creating music using recyclable items.

He says the event is focused on bringing youths together during this New Year celebration and also create togetherness within our communities.

He adds that this is an opportunity for youths to showcase their talents by not just entertaining their community, but to earn money and be recognised on how well they perform.

Lewai says the theme for the competition is ‘This is Fiji’, all groups performances must be relevant to the theme and must be within 8 minutes only.

He says they are also aiming to get the competition rolling in the coming years.

The winner of the Qiri Kava competition will walk away with $500, the second runner up will receive $400 and the third prize money is $300.

The organisers are pleading with all Fijians to come in numbers and support these youths as they showcase their talent at 6pm today.

The entry fee for this competition is $3.
