Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission Director, Ashwin Raj

Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission Director, Ashwin Raj says their officers are questioned and taken to task if they are found to be biased while attending to complaints.

While giving his submission to the Parliamentary Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights on the commission’s 2016-2018 Annual Report, Raj says they need a team which is professional and this sort of behaviour is not tolerated.

He says the commission always ensures that the principle of non-discrimination is always upheld when receiving complaints.

Raj says it is important that every complaint is dealt with the same level of transparency and consistency despite the complainants’ gender, ethnicity or religion.

He says their staff are trained to put their political and religious differences aside.
