Fifty police officers who are undergoing a four-week United Nations Police Pre-deployment Training at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova, were reminded to be exemplary and unique in the conduct of their service.

While speaking at the Opening of the training, Chief Administration Officer (CAO) Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Meli Sateki told the officers that if they are going to be representing the organization, they must show the United Nations that choosing Police officers from Fiji, and this part of the world for peacekeeping duties over Police officers closer to the mission areas is a worthy investment.

He reminded the officers that getting the opportunity to serve is an honour and should never be taken lightly.

A/ACP Sateki says whilst they remain a contingent member that will leave the country to serve under the United Nations, they must remember that the rank and policies that exist in the organization are applicable wherever they go, and they should respect the chain of command.

He adds the organization will also expect in return professional development, and the mission area is where they can grow and learn.

The Chief Administration Officer says opportunities will present themselves in mission areas and they should apply and grow from the new experiences.

Upon the completion of the training, the officers will be eligible for deployment to either the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) or the United Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan(UNTIMAS).

There are 13 Fijian Police Officers currently serving under UNMISS, UNISFA and UNTIMAS.
