Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar and SODELPA MP and member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Aseri Radrodro

SODELPA MP and member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Aseri Radrodro says a major issue that the Office of the Auditor-General has been confronted with is the delay of submissions of accounts by municipalities and provincial councils.

Radrodro has told parliament the Office of the Auditor-General has recommended that these entities need to be beefed up to ensure audited accounts are submitted on time and most of these entities have delayed audited accounts dating back to 2007.

Radrodro says he hopes the responsible ministers will better equip these entities.

He further says the Office of the Auditor-General has also been requesting for more resources to ensure they complete audits on time.

He adds some of the ministries and departments are continuously delaying their submissions for annual financial reports for auditing purposes.

Radrodro also told parliament that the Office of the Auditor-General cannot conduct audits on some government commercial companies.

Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar has told parliament that all 13 municipal councils have been directed to prioritise the auditing of their accounts and submit annual reports to the Ministry.

She says a total of 31 annual reports were presented in the last parliament sitting, 62 annual reports are ready for submission to the cabinet and 18 annual accounts are with the Office of the Auditor-General for auditing.
