Police confirm that there was no attempted attack on a Government Minister in Tailevu yesterday afternoon however there was an alleged attack on a businessman and a Police vehicle and officers.
Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says they strongly urge social media users to verify posts from trusted news websites or through credible sources and be mindful of what they share because it can create unnecessary panic and in the end users can find themselves be used by those wanting to advance their own agenda.
Fake news is being circulated on social media that there was an attempted attack on a minister.
Naisoro says there was an incident where a businessman was allegedly attacked along Kings Highway near Navesau, Wainibuka.
She says Police attended to the case promptly and their vehicle and officers were stoned by the suspect.
A team has been tasked to search and apprehend the suspect.
Meanwhile, the man claims he was allegedly attacked and robbed yesterday by three men who had a cane knife with them in Wainibuka while he was travelling from Tavua to Suva in his vehicle.
Biswa Nand told Fijivillage that he slowed down his vehicle in Navesau as a bamboo was lying across the road.
He says three young men who had been allegedly hiding in a nearby bush then came forward and threatened him. Nand says a man who allegedly had a cane knife told him to hand over whatever he had.
He says he gave him whatever money he had in his vehicle.
The man says at this time another vehicle allegedly slowed down behind his vehicle which resulted in the three men to be distracted long enough for him to escape.
Nand says his wife and their 17-year-old son were with him in the vehicle.
