New variety of dalo, Tarova Damu developed at Koronivia Research Station

Good news for farmers as a new variety of dalo, Tarova Damu has been developed at Koronivia Research Station which will be provided free to farmers for cultivation.

The farmers will have to register at Koronivia Research Station to get the new variety.

The new variety of dalo is tolerant to taro leaf blight disease and can be harvested in six to seven months time.

Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Mahendra Reddy who officiated at the launch today says it is important to prepare the industry and build resilience for the future invasion of taro leaf disease.

Dalo industry is the second largest export earner, bringing $27 million annually.

Head of Research, Shalendra Prasad says under the leadership of Dr. Reddy, they have increased the export of fresh and chilled foods by 25.8% and as a result, their total exports stands at $106.7 million up from $84.8 million in 2019.
