Students of Dreketi Central College now have new facilities as three new classrooms with necessary classroom furniture, 120 sets of desks and chairs for students, and three sets of desks and chairs for teachers were commissioned today.

While commissioning the new building, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad acknowledged the Japanese Government for fully funding the project worth $333,784.

He says he remembers his years in the school and adds the new building is a magnificent facility and it is going to contribute to the infrastructure for our schools that is urgently necessary in many places.

Professor Prasad says the Coalition Government is committed to enhancing the provision of quality education for our children and they have already embarked on reviewing some of the legislation and policies governing the education sector that are right from early childhood education to higher education.

He says the Government also recognizes the role of faith-based, community-based organisations where more than 95 percent of our schools were built and run and managed by faith-based organisations and communities.

The Deputy Prime Minister says the government only manages two primary schools and 11 secondary schools so they are deeply committed to building that partnership between communities, parents, teachers, and faith-based organisations to ensure that there is delivery of quality education.
