The days of living unpredictable and unsafe is over for the villagers of Emuri as their new crossing was commissioned by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.
While officiating at the event in Sigatoka, Bainimarama says people who live in rural communities before this crossing was built had lived different lives and during a strong storm, the area would be flooded and it would take weeks for the water to recede.
He adds this results in families being left stranded and unable to access essential services.
The Prime Minister says with this new crossing parents can now sleep easy knowing that even in a heavy rainfall their children can now cross safely to school, livestock and produce can make it to the market and they can access healthcare services if someone is sick.
Bainimarama says the government work is driven by the spirit of inclusivity and the Emuri crossing is another impressive milestone for the country.
The government invested $1.7 million for the completion of the 30-metre crossing which will serve Emuri village and surrounding communities.
