Up to 500 students in the greater Nadi- Lautoka corridor can be accommodated in the newly commissioned Muaira Methodist College in Lautoka.

The $2.1 million school that was funded by the United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Society is now equipped with an industrial arts workshop, a computer lab, a science lab and a home economics lab with a library, school hall, and more classrooms in the pipeline.

Commissioning the new school, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says these are world-class facilities that enable every student to grow to their fullest potential; preparing them to be valuable Fijian and global citizens.

Bainimarama also re-emphasized the Government’s commitment of providing a safe and secure learning environment for all Fijian children.

Supported by the Fijian Government, this is the third school that is being funded by the United Arab Emirates Government, through the UAE Red Crescent Society, along with Ratu Simione Matanitobua College and Sigatoka Methodist College-Kulukulu Wing, both commissioned earlier this week.

The Prime Minister also commended the teachers and staff of the school and the parents for the exemplary efforts they had displayed over the last two years to help keep their children learning.

UAE Red Crescent Society Head of Delegation, Hamoud Aljneibi says this is part of their efforts to rebuild areas affected by natural disasters.

School Manager Albert Wise says they are grateful for the support towards the phase one of the college and acknowledged the Fijian Government for prioritising the education of children in Fiji.
