Nausori market vendors and farmers are raising their concerns to the government that there is less space and no security in the Nausori Municipal Market, however, the Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar says they are willing to provide the services but vendors have to pay for it.

A farmer from Baulevu says farmers do not have space to sell their produce and they are now using the carpark side of the market to sell.

Some vendors raised concern about the security of the market as many illegal activities are being done beside it.

They also say vandalism of vehicles and drug activities has increased because no security guards are looking after the market during the day.

Meanwhile, the Minister highlighted that for any vendor who wants CCTV and other services provided to them, they have to pay for it.

Kumar says they are paying $80,000 per month for the loan for the Nausori Market and when analysing what vendors are paying, it is not too much.

She says there are problems in the market today because the stall fees is very low and there are vendors who own a large number of stalls as it is cheap.

Meanwhile, Nausori Town Council CEO Anurashika Bari says they are working closely with the Ministry to map out some sort of a plan to make space for the additional vendors and farmers in Nausori.
