Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh

The Ministry of Employment and Industrial Relations has commenced the review of the National Minimum Wage rate, and they will be holding consultations with all employers and businesses.

While speaking at the breakfast hosted by the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh says some key factors of labour migration, as well as labour mobility, are due to better employment opportunities or attractive pay packages.

Singh says they have commenced with the review of the National Minimum Wage rate and the sectoral wage regulations as one of the mechanisms to retain our workers from leaving our shores for better opportunities.

He says as of yesterday, they have sent letters of appointments to the tripartite partners for this wages council membership.

The Minister adds this whole exercise will be conducted through the Employment Relations Advisory Board, and it is going to be a consultative process.

Singh says they will make sure they will go on a roadshow to be able to connect with all the employers and all businesses.

He says everybody must be consulted, and they will work closely with the Ministry of Finance.

He highlighted that this government is about collaborating and working together.
