The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 and Vision 2050 has been launched today by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Cooperatives Manoa Kamikamica.

While launching the Plan on behalf of the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Kamikamica says as a nation, we have shown remarkable resilience in the face of numerous challenges, from the devastating impacts of the global pandemic, economic and financial crises, changing global geopolitical dynamics and the gravity of war against drugs.

He says these events have taught us hard lessons and, as a result, they have adapted and strengthened our ability to respond to future adversities.

He also says addressing our public finances and reducing the national debt are among the Coalition Government’s top priorities.

Kamikamica adds stabilizing our fiscal situation became imperative to create the necessary space to finance future development initiatives.

The Deputy Prime Minister says they also moved to provide job security for civil servants, replacing fixed-term contracts with permanent tenure, and fostering a culture of continuous dialogue.

He says this Plan represents the culmination of months of tireless dedication, collaboration, and vision and is a testament to our collective commitment to shaping a future that is defined by progress, prosperity, and opportunity for all.

Kamikamica says he envisage that this National Development Plan will act as a catalyst to bring a more transformative change to realise better economic growth and opportunities for greater prosperity of our current and future generations.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad says this National Development Plan emerges at a critical moment, intended to respond to the pressing global, regional and national challenges that shape our prospects as a nation and that define the limits of our shared future.

He says the Plan seeks to present Fiji with an opportunity to shape its pathway to becoming a resilient, sustainable and highly inclusive nation.

Professor Prasad says the Plan is for everyone.
