Nasinu residents demand action over poor Council Services

Chairman of the Nasinu Town Council, Felix Magnus

Residents of Nasinu are concerned about the poor service provided by the Nasinu Town Council as many have faced drainage and issues of solid waste collection and nothing has been done and has been a health issue to many and a breeding site for mosquitoes.

A resident who wanted to remain anonymous says while raising this issue to the Council, their questions were not answered and they were asked if they had paid their Town rates.

The resident says Nasinu areas have not been the same for the past year after the Municipal elections, nothing has been done to solve the issues, instead, they are just visiting places with a summons for the people to pay their rates.

He says uncollected garbage, green waste and white goods in neighbourhoods across Nasinu have become an eyesore and have caused blocked drains for the residents of Tovata, Nepani, Makoi, Narere, Nadera, Valelevu, Caubati, Kinoya and Nadawa.

With the increase of dengue and Leptospirosis cases in the Country, the residents have said that lack of services from the Municipal Councils might be one of the reasons why these diseases are spreading.

Chairman of the Nasinu Town Council, Felix Magnus says they will be having an awareness program that will be carried out from June to July where they will try to advise the people living along the Nasinu corridor about their plans.

Magnus says they are also working closely with the Ministry of Waterways in terms of getting some funds to facilitate their plans on fixing the drainage issues and how they can expand the drainage system in the Nasinu areas.

He says they have also standardised drains that should be passed by the engineers and local authorities.
