Nasinu Town and Suva City Councils have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding with the Police to strengthen and enhance community safety and security.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says this sets the foundation for a strengthened partnership between local government and law enforcement to foster safer urban communities.

The MOU is designed to improve law enforcement coordination, enhance crime prevention strategies and create safer public spaces in both Nasinu and Suva.

The collaboration will focus on joint community policing initiatives – implementing neighborhood watch programs and awareness campaigns, enhance police presence and response times in high-risk areas.

Council’s Executive Chairman, Felix Magnus stressed the significance of this agreement in addressing crime and improving safety across the municipalities.

Magnus says this partnership allows them to take a proactive approach in crime prevention, while also fostering stronger relationships between law enforcement and the residents.

Suva City Council’s Executive Chairman, Tevita Boseiwaqa says Suva is the heart of Fiji’s economic and social activities, and with that comes unique security concerns they are taking decisive steps to make it a safer place for businesses, residents and visitors alike.

Tudravu reaffirmed their commitment to working with municipal councils to enhance public safety as community policing is most effective when it is done in partnership with local government.
