Nasinu Secondary head boy overcomes loss of parents, strives to inspire change

The challenges I faced losing my mother at the age of 7 and my father at 14 inspired me to strive for the best and become a better person in life.

This is the sentiment shared by the Nasinu Secondary School head boy, Timoci Vereivalu, who says that his upbringing and struggles have been a source of motivation.

Vereivalu says his goal for this year is to change the mindset of students, as Nasinu Secondary has been known for drug-related and other social issues.

The 18-year-old is urging the student council to work together to bring positive change to students' lives.

The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, says leadership is not a walk in the park, and to become a great leader, they need to be firm with their decisions and speak the truth with love and compassion.

Radrodro says this calling comes with significant responsibilities and expectations from students, teachers and parents.

He urges the school prefects to always be vigilant as there are real issues that they will face, such as the use of illegal drugs, fighting amongst students, bad influence of peer pressure and more.

He says they need to remain steadfast in their calling and do the right thing despite the opposition they will face from their peers.

He adds every school should be a safe space where students can learn, grow, and build a brighter future, so, violence, bullying, and any form of aggression have no place in our learning environments.

120 students of Nasinu Secondary School received their prefect badges today.
