Christopher Narayan will spend 5 years, 9 months, and 26 days in prison after High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera

A 30-year-old man convicted of manslaughter has been sentenced to 7 years imprisonment for killing his 2-year-old daughter at their home in Nakasi on 4th March last year.

Christopher Narayan will spend 5 years, 9 months, and 26 days in prison after High Court Judge Justice Vinsent Perera took into account the time Narayan has spent in remand.

Narayan has spent 1 year, 2 months, and 4 days in remand.

A non-parole period of 3 years, 9 months, and 26 days has been set.

In his sentence, Justice Perera said the 2-year-old girl had bone and rib fractures which caused internal bleeding.

Justice Perera said this 2-year-old girl had endured immense pain and suffering between 2pm to 8pm that day.

Investigators discovered the girl's mother and Narayan had been fighting on the night the child was found unconscious.

The girl was allegedly caught in the middle of the dispute and was assaulted.

She was found lying unconscious in their Nakasi home by her mother and was taken to the Valelevu Health Centre where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Justice Perera said the sentence is a lesson for parents to ensure children do not go through what the deceased went through.

The Judge said every child deserves to be loved and cared for.

Justice Perera said this 2-year-old girl went through 6 hours of suffering.
