A youth club in Vanua Levu have put together a seven’s tournament to assist them in their Club’s project of rebuilding their church that was damaged during Tropical Cyclone Yasa in late 2022.

Fiji Pine Gumatua Me Vuabale 7s Secretary Semisi Dawai says the Namuavoivoi Youth Club members in Bua had taken the initiative to do this project to give back to their Vanua.

He says the aim of organising this tournament is to rebuild their church that was destroyed during TC Yasa, as they were also using it as an evacuation centre.

Dawai says the cost of rebuilding the church is around $500,000, and they will be holding the 7s competition for the next 5-years.

He adds the 7s competition is also aimed at showcasing the talents of youths in Vanua Levu since some of the prominent rugby players came from the province of Bua.

Looking at the quarter finals results, Warden beat Nawailevu 26-0, Raiwasa Taveuni defeated Bainivualiku 26-10, Devo Babas thrashed Nadogo 21-0 and Bua Babas edged Namuavoivoi Drifters 12-10.

Warden will face Bua Babas in the first semi-final while Raiwasa will meet Devo Babas in the second semi final.

The Gumatua Me Vuabale 7s is currently underway at Lekutu Secondary School Ground in Bua.
