Former Chief Justice and Chair of the Fiji Electoral Law Reform Commission, Daniel Fatiaki says women in Naitasiri felt comfortable enough to raise their voices during the public consultation on the electoral laws yesterday as they backed the idea of having reserved seats for women in Parliament.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Fatiaki says they raised their voices and told them what their thoughts are.

He says they were generally in favour of having a woman's reserve seat and asked about how those would be allocated across the country.

He further says it is really up to the people how they think and some suggested that the four divisions should have at least one representative.

The Chair says this shows they are thinking and that is the important thing.

He adds they are still trying to raise awareness and encourage people to come, but they have not yet found the magic formula.

He says some say the times are not right and but they are doing the best they can.

Former Justice Fatiaki says they are working hard by agreeing to do interviews and using every opportunity to invite people to attend.

Meanwhile, a consultation is currently underway at the FNU Campus in Nasinu, with more than 20 people in attendance.

He says tomorrow they are heading to the Navua area and are hopeful for a good turnout there too.

The public consultation in Navua will be held from 10am to 2pm at the Namosi Provincial Council Hall and from 4pm to 6pm at Rampur College.
