The NGO Coalition on Human Rights says this Human Rights Day, they demand a government that will listen to the voices of the people, recognise and respects the rights of all Fijians, practices values of democracy and equality, and one that enables an environment where justice is served to all perpetrators of violence and violations of human rights.

While celebrating Human Rights Day at Suva Bowling Club, the NGO Coalitin said as Fiji holds its national elections, they urge the people to choose wisely - choose leaders that will listen to the issues that we as a diverse people with intersectional barriers and challenges face daily.

The Coalition believes that State accountability is urgent to ensuring the protection of everyone's rights and reminds us all of our commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

They also call out against intimidation, violence, discrimination, racism, militarism, homophobia, transphobia, climate and environmental injustices and all other human rights atrocities.

Activism, chanting, music and dance was the order of the day at the annual Human Rights Day event organised by the NGO Coalition on Human Rights today.

Human rights defenders used the platform to call out against all types of violations against the human rights of all Fijians as we mark the anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Human Rights Day is commemorated around the world on 10th December on the anniversary of the day the UN General Assembly adopted the UDHR in 1948 concluding the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
