NFA concerned with electrical related fire incidents

Electrical related fire incidents have been the highest cause of fires so far this year.

National Fire Authority CEO Puamau Sowane says in the first half of 2020, NFA has recorded 24 electrical related fire incidents which makes up 42% of all fire incidents they have received.

Sowane says this should remind the public to be always alert and ensure that a qualified and licensed electrician is engaged to carry out any electrical related work in homes.

NFA’s investigation report confirms, the fire that destroyed a property in Makoi on Tuesday had resulted from an electrical short circuit in the sitting room.

Sowane says they are advising the public to lookout for warning signs like faulty wiring, flickering lights, breakers that always trip, fuses that blow, a burning smell when you plug in appliances, outlets and switches that spark and discoloured wall outlets to prevent mishaps in homes.
