It is a dream come true for the Muriwaqa family and 13 other tenants of Kalabu and Makoi Public Rental Board (PRB) flats as they officially became homeowners today.

72-year-old Simione Vonovono Muriwaqa told fijivillage News that the event is the realization of a lifelong dream.

The elderly man, who hails from Nakorovou Village in Rewa, says being a tenant for 40 years brought many challenges for his family, and today, he feels profound relief and pride in becoming a homeowner.

He says this is a dream come true for him and his family, as after decades of renting, they finally have a place to call their own.

While handing over the titles, Minister for Housing, Maciu Nalumisa said the event represents a pivotal step towards fulfilling the government's vision of empowering citizens and fostering a culture of home ownership.

He says they are aware of the housing challenges that have emerged in recent years and is driven by the rapid increase in urban populations, the rural to urban drift and global uncertainties.

The Minister says they believe that home ownership is a foundational element in building stronger, more resilient families and communities.

He says when families own their home, they not only secure their future, but they invest in the well-being of their neighbourhood, communities, society and economy.
